Friday Evening
Arrive and exhale. Drop your bags, pour a glass of wine, and walk to the beach for sunset. If you drove, you earned it.
Dinner at Stone Creek Inn — the French-Mediterranean cuisine in the Victorian setting is the perfect way to signal to your nervous system that the weekend has begun. Reservations essential.
Saturday Morning
Coffee and pastries from Schmidt's Country Market on Jessup Avenue. Browse the gourmet groceries and grab provisions for a beach picnic.
Then head to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge for a morning walk — the 7-mile trail system is magical in the early hours. Don't miss the Outdoor Wildlife Complex with its owls, hawks, and giant tortoises.
Saturday Afternoon
Beach time. Quogue Village Beach on Dune Road is uncrowded even in peak summer. Pack Schmidt's sandwiches, plenty of sunscreen, and a good book. The water is clean and the surf is gentle.
Saturday Evening
Sundowners at Dockers Waterside on Dune Road — fresh oysters at the raw bar while watching boats come in at sunset. Stay for dinner (the lobster is excellent) or head to Fauna in Westhampton Beach for something more inventive.
Sunday Morning
Sleep in. Leisurely breakfast. Walk the Fairy Dell Boardwalk at the Wildlife Refuge — it's a catwalk over tidal wetlands with views of Quantuck Creek from three terminal platforms.
Sunday Afternoon
If you have time before heading back, browse the Quogue Gallery for local art, pick up something from Schmidt's to take home, and take one last beach walk.
You'll be planning your next visit before you hit the LIE.
