Quantuck Creek Water Quality Report Shows Improvement

The Village of Quogue's annual water quality monitoring report shows significant improvement in Quantuck Creek's ecosystem health for the second consecutive year.

Key findings:

• Nitrogen levels decreased 12% compared to 2024
• Dissolved oxygen levels are within healthy ranges throughout the creek system
• Eel grass beds have expanded by an estimated 15%
• Shellfish populations, particularly bay scallops, continue to recover

"These results are a direct outcome of the village's investment in stormwater management and our partnership with the Quogue Wildlife Refuge on habitat restoration," said the village environmental officer.

The Fairy Dell Boardwalk at the Wildlife Refuge, which traverses the headwaters of Quantuck Creek, offers residents and visitors a firsthand view of the improving ecosystem.

The village's septic upgrade incentive program, which offers grants of up to $10,000 for homeowners replacing outdated systems with nitrogen-reducing alternatives, has seen 34 participants since its 2024 launch.
